EcoSmart VB2 Ethanol Burner

The EcoSmart VB2 ethanol burner is built for one job: converting an unused or outdated fireplace into a working bioethanol fireplace without building work. There is no chimney to sweep, no flue to install and no gas connection to arrange. The VB2 burner sits directly within your existing fireplace grate, so a period fireplace that has been decorative for years can hold a real, clean-burning flame the day it arrives.

That is why the VB2 has become the go-to bioethanol burner insert for traditional cast iron fireplaces — from simple cast iron inserts and arched designs to fireplaces set in tiled, limestone or marble surrounds. Its compact 330mm body drops into most standard grates, and adjustable feet let you level and lift it to suit the depth of your fireplace. Finished in black, super high-temperature powder coat over Grade 304 stainless steel, it blends into the surround rather than competing with it.

Despite its size, the VB2 is a genuine heat source. The 2-litre tank delivers a 2kW output — enough to take the chill off rooms up to 15m² — and burns for up to 6 hours on a full fill. Fuel consumption is around 0.5 litres per hour, so running costs stay predictable

Day-to-day use is deliberately simple. A dedicated filling point reduces the chance of overfilling, the lid extinguishes the flame and seals the tank against dust when not in use, and the internal baffles, vents and padding are all dishwasher-proof. The VB2 is O-TL listed to UL 1370, EN 16647 BSI certified and compliant with the ACCC safety mandate.

Every VB2 ships with a 5L jerry can, lighting rod, fire lighter and bottle adaptor — everything needed to fill, light and manage the burner safely from day one. Optional extras include the Plasma Fire Screen and black glass charcoal decorative media.

Looking after your VB2 Bioethanol Burner

Let the burner cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the stainless steel body with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth — never abrasive pads or harsh chemicals, which can damage the black powder-coat finish. The internal baffles, vents and padding are all dishwasher-proof for a deeper clean. When the burner's not in use, close the lid to keep dust and debris out of the tank — it'll stay clean and ready year-round.

Fuel safety

Only use clean-burning bioethanol fuel recommended for EcoSmart burners. Never add fuel while the burner is hot or lit — always let it cool fully first, and use the dedicated filling point to avoid overfilling. The VB2's lid extinguishes the flame safely and instantly by cutting off the oxygen. The VB2 needs a room of at least 45m³ with normal ventilation. Keep fuel containers away from children and store in a cool, dry place.
